Kakao announced on the 24th that it has published the "2024 Group Technology Ethics Report," which contains the achievements of its group-level technology ethics activities.
This report comprehensively introduces Kakao Group's annual technology ethics activities and policies aimed at enhancing the safety and transparency of services and technology.
Kakao has been strengthening technology ethics governance at the group level. In April, it reorganized the "Community Technology Ethics Committee" and established the "Group Technology Ethics Subcommittee." While the existing Community Technology Ethics Committee was responsible for inspecting technology ethics by affiliates and exploring development plans, the reorganized Group Technology Ethics Subcommittee focuses on proactive responses such as preemptive risk inspection and integrated management of technology ethics policies.
This year, the Group Technology Ethics Subcommittee newly established three technology ethics policies: ▲new AI ethics items for Kakao Artificial Intelligence (AI), ▲introduction of a core checklist for safe AI, and ▲internal usage policy for generative AI.
In particular, the "Kakao Group Guidelines for Responsible AI" added new provisions emphasizing user autonomy, cautioning against excessive reliance on AI, and ensuring physical, mental, and social safety.
Additionally, the safe AI checklist must be mandatorily reviewed during the launch and update processes of AI-based services. To encourage safe use of generative AI by employees, an internal usage policy for generative AI was also established.
Furthermore, Kakao continues technology ethics communication through monthly online magazine "TechEthics," the launch of a group literacy activity introduction page, publication of the annual group technology ethics report, and expansion of domestic and international external communication and cooperation.
Major affiliates such as Kakao Games, Kakao Mobility, Kakao Bank, Kakao Enterprise, Kakao Entertainment, Kakao Pay, Kakao Healthcare, and DK Techin have also expanded their technology ethics activities. This year, the total number of activities across the subcommittee and affiliates reached 40.
Lee Sang-ho, leader of the Group Technology Ethics Subcommittee, stated in the foreword, "Through this report, we aim to clearly and transparently communicate Kakao Group's concrete efforts to contribute to creating a safer, more inclusive, and trustworthy future through technology and services."
