LG Electronics Included in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index for 13 Consecutive Years

Top 10% Companies in ESG Management Selected by S&P Global

LG Electronics announced on the 24th that it has been included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) World for 13 consecutive years. This is the longest period among domestic companies in the home appliances and leisure products sector.

The DJSI, published by the global financial information company S&P Global, is an index that comprehensively evaluates not only a company's economic performance but also its ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) aspects. It is used as a benchmark to compare the sustainability management levels of companies and to make decisions on socially responsible investments. Being selected for the DJSI World means that a company ranks in the top 10% in ESG management among the world's top 2,500 companies. LG Electronics received the highest overall score this year in the 'Home Appliances and Leisure Products' category of S&P Global's sustainability assessment.

LG Electronics has also been included in the 'DJSI Asia Pacific' (top 20% among 600 companies in the Asia-Pacific region) and 'DJSI Korea' (top 30% among 200 domestic companies) for 15 and 16 consecutive years, respectively.

LG Electronics has set a goal to achieve carbon neutrality in its product manufacturing processes by 2030 and to switch to 100% renewable energy by 2050. The company has improved processes, introduced energy-saving technologies, and is using renewable energy. Through these efforts, it plans to reduce direct greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 1) and indirect greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 2) during the product production stage by 54.6% compared to 2017 levels, and achieve carbon neutrality by utilizing UN carbon credits and other measures.

In 2015, LG Electronics became the first company in the home appliance industry to acquire carbon credits from the United Nations. Furthermore, it plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions per unit of output by 20% by 2020 levels for seven major global product categories (TVs, refrigerators, washing machines, dryers, residential and system air conditioners, and monitors) during the product usage phase (Scope 3).

The company is also enhancing its human rights management processes to respond to strengthening global ESG-related regulations.
