Daegwangwi Approves Basic Plan for 'Gangdong Hanam Namyangju Line'

The 'Gangdong-Hanam-Namyangju Line Metropolitan Railroad,' which extends Seoul Subway Line 9, will open in 2031. Using this line will reduce travel time by 20 minutes from Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul to Jinjeop 2 District, Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Metropolitan Transportation Committee announced on the 24th that it has approved the basic plan for the Gangdong-Hanam-Namyangju Line Metropolitan Railroad.

The committee will open this line in 2031 after subsequent procedures such as 'basic and detailed design' and construction.

This line is a core project of the 3rd New Town 'Namyangju Wangsuk and Wangsuk 2 District Metropolitan Transportation Improvement Plan,' with a total project cost of 2.824 trillion KRW. Following the section under construction from Jungang Veterans Affairs to Gangil-dong (Phase 3 of Line 9), the line will sequentially connect Seoul's Godeok and Gangil districts, Hanam City's Misa district in Gyeonggi Province, Namyangju's Wangsuk and Wangsuk 2 districts, and Jinjeop 2 District, with a total length of 17.59 km.

The committee plans to build a total of eight stations mainly in major housing sites in the northeastern metropolitan area and operate trains identical to those on the existing Line 9.

Using this line, it will take only 51 minutes to travel from Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul to Jinjeop 2 District, Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province. Currently, it takes 72 minutes by bus. Notably, commuters can travel to the Gangnam area, where demand is high, without transfers.

Additionally, this line is expected to serve as a central axis of metropolitan transportation by connecting with the Jinjeop Line (Line 4), Gyeongchun Line, Gyeongui-Jungang Line, and the GTX (Great Train Express) Line B.

Kang Hee-eop, chairman of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Metropolitan Transportation Committee, said, "Following the approval of the basic plan for the Goyang-Eunpyeong Line Metropolitan Railroad planned this year last month, the additional confirmation of the Gangdong-Hanam-Namyangju Line basic plan signifies that the expansion of the metropolitan transportation network for the 3rd New Towns is progressing in earnest. We will cooperate with related agencies to minimize transportation inconveniences for new town residents and ensure the line opens smoothly in 2031."
