Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it will hold a special contemporary art exhibition titled "Rose-Colored Future: Ambiguous Boundaries" at Yeongdeungpo Art Square until January 12 next year.
This exhibition, themed "Post-humanism," reinterprets various contemporary societal issues such as artificial intelligence (AI) and the environment, as well as the unpredictable future, from an artistic perspective.
Co-hosted by the district and the Yeongdeungpo Cultural Foundation, the exhibition features eight artists selected through an open call. The artists explore the diverse possibilities of contemporary art by expressing the ambiguous boundaries between the present and the future through various genres including media art, painting, and installation.
The exhibition runs from December 19 to January 12, 2025, and is free to the public without prior reservation. Especially, a docent program is operated every weekend during the exhibition period to help visitors gain a deeper understanding of the artworks.
On December 20, the district marked the opening of the exhibition with an Opening Rap Performance by participating artist Ahn Kwang-hwi.
The opening ceremony also provided a time for participating artists and visitors to freely communicate and share their opinions about the artworks, receiving great acclaim.
A special lecture held alongside the exhibition is also noteworthy. Artist Kang Yi-yeon, who recently collaborated with Google and NASA and is a professor in the Department of Industrial Design at KAIST University, will speak on the topic "The Creative Frontier: The Forefront of Creative Boundaries," discussing the importance and role of creativity in the 21st century as technological environments evolve. The lecture will be held on Friday, December 27, at 11 a.m.
For more details, inquiries can be made to the Yeongdeungpo Cultural Foundation or Yeongdeungpo Art Square.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, "This special exhibition, presented by young artists in the youthful city of Yeongdeungpo, is a great opportunity to understand and explore post-humanism from a new perspective. We will continue to actively support the creative activities of young artists and do our best to discover various events so that residents can easily access culture and art in their daily lives."
