Gwangju City is advancing toward becoming a "Safe City Gwangju," one of its five major municipal goals, by operating the "Building Safety Advisory Group" to enhance expertise in building safety management.

On the afternoon of the 23rd, Gwangju City held the inauguration ceremony for the "2nd Building Safety Advisory Group" (hereinafter referred to as the Advisory Group) at the Mudeung Hall in City Hall. The Building Safety Advisory Group is a team of experts responsible for local building safety management, including: ▲ safety consulting and inspections for building construction and demolition sites ▲ building safety inspections against natural disasters ▲ on-site consulting and response in case of building safety-related emergencies.

Over 100 people attended the inauguration ceremony, including Mayor Kang Gijung, members of the Advisory Group, and relevant officials. The event began with a report on the achievements of the 1st Advisory Group, followed by a report on the formation of the 2nd Advisory Group, and concluded with a safety helmet presentation ceremony.

The 2nd Advisory Group consists of 76 experts in seven fields: 19 in building structure, 22 in building construction, 9 in construction safety, 7 in soil and foundation, 9 in fire safety, 5 architects, and 5 in quality control. They began their activities on October 1, prior to the inauguration, and their term will last for three years until September 30, 2027.

The Advisory Group is part of the city's efforts to realize "Safe City Gwangju." By leveraging the expertise of the Advisory Group, it is expected to take the first step in proactively preventing building safety accidents and spreading a culture of safety throughout the city.

The 1st Advisory Group, which was active from October 2021 to last September, provided technical consulting at the Hwajeong I-Park collapse site, conducted safety inspections of small and aging buildings, and carried out emergency safety inspections of unauthorized buildings through joint public-private efforts.

Mayor Kang Gijung said, "The Building Safety Advisory Group plays an important role in protecting the lives and property of citizens," and added, "We will actively utilize the expertise of the Advisory Group to make Gwangju a safer and more livable city."
