The co-chairs of the ‘Glocal Consortium University Committee,’ the highest deliberative and decision-making body of the consortium university, are Park Hyung-joon, Mayor of Busan, Lee Hae-woo, President of Dong-A University, and Jang Je-guk, President of Dongseo University.

Committee members include Yang Jae-saeng (CEO of Eunsan Shipping & Aviation), Chairman of the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Kim Kwang-soo (Chairman of Dong-A Electric Industry), Chairman of the Busan Employers Federation; Shin Jeong-taek (Chairman of Sewoon Steel), President of the Dong-A University Alumni Association; and Lee Jae-hwan (Chairman of Toptec), President of the Dongseo University Alumni Association.

The first committee meeting was held in the Crystal Ballroom on the 3rd floor of Lotte Hotel Busan in the morning, attended by about 50 people including Park Hyung-joon, Mayor of Busan; Lee Hae-woo, President of Dong-A University; Jang Je-guk, President of Dongseo University; committee members; Kang Dae-sung, Head of the Dong-A University Glocal Promotion Team; Jo Dae-su, Head of the Dongseo University Glocal Project Team; heads of governance departments of the Glocal Consortium University; members of the Glocal Consortium University Education Committee; Busan city officials; and staff from both universities.

Through the agenda review that day, Lee Hae-woo, who was appointed as the president of the Glocal Consortium University, said, “Busan is emerging as a global hub city, and Dong-A University and Dongseo University will establish themselves as prestigious global private universities. This is precisely the goal of the Glocal Consortium University.” He added, “With a heavy sense of responsibility, I will pioneer the future of Busan, Dong-A University, and Dongseo University.”

President Lee also stated, “Dong-A University’s Seokdang Museum, considered the best among university museums nationwide, houses two national treasures. One of them is the Donggwoldo, a palace painting created over 200 years ago. Donggwoldo depicts Changdeokgung and Changgyeonggung Palaces on canvas and is regarded as a masterpiece representing not only Korea but East Asia.” He emphasized the consortium university’s goal aligned with the Glocal University purpose by saying, “By adding Dongseo University’s strength in cultural content digital technology, we will promote our cultural heritage and Busan to the world and make the world come to Busan.”

In addition, the event included the approval of the Glocal Consortium University’s academic regulations and the appointment of key committee members and office heads for the Glocal Consortium University governance.

Previously, Dong-A University and Dongseo University were selected as a consortium type for the government’s 2024 Glocal University Project. They presented the vision of a ‘Busan Open Consortium University’ that realizes joint benefits between Busan city and universities based on an integrated industrial complex. They are working to secure growth engines for the Busan region by linking industry-academia-research in four specialized fields connected to local industries: Energy Tech, Bio Health, Cultural Contents, and Busan Heritage.
