Gangwon Hwacheon-gun Opens ‘Bandabi Sports Center’ to Enhance Accessibility for Disabled

Completed Construction of Indoor Sports Facilities in All Areas of Hwacheon-gun on the 23rd

Hwacheon-gun, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Governor Choi Moon-soon) announced that the 'Hwacheon Bandabi Sports Center,' which will contribute to the welfare improvement of residents in Gandong-myeon, Hwacheon-gun, held its opening ceremony on the 23rd and officially began operations. On the same day, the opening ceremony of the small library inside the Bandabi Sports Center was also held.

With the opening of the Bandabi Sports Center, indoor sports facilities have been established in all areas of Hwacheon-gun, including the Hwacheon area, Sanae area, Sangseo area, and now the Gandong area. The Hwacheon Bandabi Sports Center, aiming to be an 'indoor cultural and sports facility accessible to anyone at any time,' broke ground in 2020.

The Hwacheon Bandabi Sports Center is a two-story building with a total floor area of 2,141㎡, specialized in providing easy access for people with disabilities. Inside the center, facilities include a fitness center, a small library, one goalball court, and six courts that serve as both volleyball and badminton courts. Goalball is an official Paralympic sport designed for visually impaired athletes.

With the establishment of the Hwacheon Bandabi Sports Center, the foundation for community sports in the Gandong area has also been strengthened. This is expected to enhance the welfare of both general residents and people with disabilities, as well as boost sports marketing and revitalize the local economy.

In 2021, Hwacheon-gun created the Gandong Community Sports Park in Yuchon-ri, Gandong-myeon, equipped with a soccer field, baseball field, futsal field, and jokgu field. With the addition of the indoor sports facility, it has become possible to host various sports competitions of different scales and categories in the Gandong-myeon area.

Choi Moon-soon, Governor of Hwacheon-gun, stated, “A foundation has been established for all residents across Hwacheon-gun to easily access indoor sports facilities,” and added, “We will not only expand infrastructure but also strengthen sports marketing strategies.”
