On-site Inspection Ahead of Opening of Connecting Road Between Dongtan 1 and 2 New Towns

Jung Myung-geun, Mayor of Hwaseong City, Gyeonggi Province, visited the site on the morning of the 23rd to check the preparation status ahead of the full opening of the upper connecting road section of the Gyeongbu Expressway underground section.

The Gyeongbu Expressway upper connecting road project involves constructing six new roads?two main arterial roads and four auxiliary arterial roads?connecting Dongtan 1 and 2 New Towns in the space created by the expressway's underground section. Along with the roads, a park will be created on the upper section, linking Yeoul Park and green corridors.

Previously, the No. 1 and No. 6 main arterial roads among the Gyeongbu Expressway upper connecting roads were opened at the end of August. Among the four auxiliary arterial roads, two (No. 2 and No. 5 roads) will be opened first on the 23rd, followed by the No. 4 road on the 27th and the No. 3 road on the 30th in sequence.

Mayor Jung urged the site officials, "I hope you will pay special attention and prepare thoroughly until the very end so that the upper connecting roads can open without any setbacks," adding, "The opening of these upper connecting roads will improve accessibility to Dongtan Station and serve as an opportunity to integrate Dongtan 1 and 2 districts into a single living area."

Mayor Jung emphasized, "We will complete the upper park, created as part of 'Botanic Garden Hwaseong,' and transform the upper section of the Gyeongbu Expressway into a space unlike any other in the world, harmonizing transportation, leisure, and jobs."
