Daegu City (Mayor Hong Jun-pyo) signed an investment agreement on the 23rd at 3 p.m. at the Sangeok Office of Daegu City Hall with Brills Co., Ltd. (CEO Jeon Jin) to establish the ‘Brills Robot R&D Center.’
Brills Co., Ltd., a robot manufacturing and solution specialist company located in Incheon, plans to invest 50.4 billion KRW to build a robot R&D center on a 2,235㎡ (approximately 676 pyeong) site within Suseong Alpha City through this investment agreement, and to relocate and expand its R&D functions in robot development to Daegu.
Brills Co., Ltd. has built a solid growth foundation in the industry by providing various robot standardization platform solutions across a wide range of fields from advanced manufacturing industries to service industries. Recently, the company has expanded its business area to robot manufacturing, showing a steep sales growth trend, and plans to apply for listing on KOSDAQ next year.
In particular, Brills Co., Ltd. launched the BRS series (Brills Robot Series), which it developed and manufactured independently to help improve the productivity of small and medium-sized enterprises struggling to adopt autonomous manufacturing due to high costs. To support full-scale mass production and continue aggressive R&D investment, the company decided to invest in establishing the Daegu Robot R&D Center.
The Daegu Robot R&D Center plans to perform functions such as developing explosion-proof collaborative robots and logistics robots?the first of their kind developed domestically?conducting component durability testing and inspection, operating demonstration rooms, and software development. It will focus on robot research and development by linking with Daegu’s excellent robot industry infrastructure.
Daegu City is home to the Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement, the only public robot support institution in Korea, and is growing as a leading city in the robot industry with the largest concentration of robot companies and information and communication technology (IT) and software companies outside the metropolitan area.
Additionally, the National Robot Test Field, equipped with the country’s only robot demonstration and evaluation infrastructure, is under development. Following its designation as the ‘AI Robot Global Innovation Zone’ earlier this month, Daegu has established its status as a global core hub city for robotics, supporting robot companies’ global expansion and applying negative regulation policies.
Jeon Jin, CEO of Brills Co., Ltd., said, “Based on Daegu’s excellent robot industry infrastructure, we will make the Daegu Robot Dedicated R&D Center the innovation hub of Brills Co., Ltd.,” adding, “We want to contribute to the development of Daegu’s robot industry by supporting innovation and growth with small and medium-sized enterprises through the development of various robots and solutions.”
Hong Jun-pyo, Mayor of Daegu City, said, “Daegu City has firmly established itself as the nation’s leading robot city by attracting the National Robot Test Field last year and the Global Innovation Zone this year,” and added, “We will spare no administrative and policy support to help Brills Co., Ltd. grow into a representative domestic robot company in Daegu.”
