Han Deok-su Meets Six Economic Organizations, Pledges "To Maintain Policy Consistency"

"Companies Have Led the History of South Korea's Development"
Early Execution of Next Year's Budget... Active Fiscal Role

Han Duck-soo, Acting President and Prime Minister, met with the six major economic organizations and pledged to focus on maintaining policy consistency under the acting system, promising a constructive fiscal role on behalf of the government.


On the 23rd, Acting President Han held a luncheon meeting with representatives of the six economic organizations at the Prime Minister's official residence in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, where he announced this policy. The event was organized to share the government's response to the current economic situation and to request cooperation so that corporate management activities can be actively carried out.

Acting President Han stated that early execution of next year's budget will be prioritized, adding, "The government will not hesitate to play a constructive fiscal role." Regarding the ruling-opposition-government consultative body, he said, "We are communicating closely with the political circles," and "Originally planned to be held tomorrow, it has been postponed slightly to the 26th." He continued, "The fundamental principle of the acting system is to faithfully uphold the Constitution and laws so that our country is reaffirmed as a nation strong in the rule of law and democracy, and to maintain policy consistency to ensure policy decisions are made for the future of the Republic of Korea."


Acting President Han also mentioned his recent phone calls with U.S. President Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, and stated that he plans to speak with Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Union (EU) Commission, soon.

Attending the meeting were Sohn Kyung-shik, Chairman of the Korea Employers Federation; Yoon Jin-sik, Chairman of the Korea International Trade Association; Kim Ki-moon, Chairman of the Korea Federation of Small and Medium Business; Ryu Jin, Chairman of the Korea Economic Federation; Chey Tae-won, Chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and Lee Ho-jun, Executive Vice Chairman of the Korea Association of Mid-sized Enterprises. They requested Acting President Han to maintain consistency in economic policies, enhance external credibility, stimulate domestic demand, and support advanced industries, while pledging to play an active role in cooperation with the government.


Acting President Han also urged companies to proceed with year-end events as planned to stimulate domestic demand. He emphasized, "Whenever times were difficult, Korean companies did their best, and that became the foundation for overcoming hardships," adding, "While the government's role is important, companies have been at the forefront of Korea's development."
