The People Power Party (representative Jang Yesun) of Goyang City Council in Gyeonggi Province claimed on the 23rd that the 2025 main budget of Goyang City was "indiscriminately cut by the Democratic Party, just like the 2024 second supplementary budget" during the 290th 2nd regular session held on the 20th.

Representative Jang Yesun stated, "During the review of the 2025 main budget, they cut legally mandated budgets such as ▲the re-establishment service for the basic urban plan ▲the establishment service for road construction management plans, not only shaking the discretionary authority of the executive branch and affiliated organizations but also committing an ultra vires act by cutting budgets mandated by law, affecting the livelihood of the people."

He continued, "Although the submitted main budget was compiled independently by each department of the executive branch and submitted to the budget officer, then reviewed and adjusted through the council’s standing committees, its appropriateness, legality, and prior consultations were ignored, and the budget was emotionally butchered under the pretext of party consensus."

Representative Jang emphasized, “As the representative of the People Power Party negotiation group who cooperated in council operations to achieve a successful conclusion, I feel betrayed. This 2025 main budget is not a choice but an essential budget for the livelihood of Goyang City and its administration in 2025.”

He added, “We must recognize that there is no party affiliation in the development of Goyang City and move beyond factional logic. I wonder if such outrageous behavior could have occurred if citizens were present at the budget review site. The Democratic Party should take responsibility for the livelihood issues arising from this incident.”

Meanwhile, in the budget and settlement special committee held during the 290th 2nd regular session of the Goyang City Council, the Democratic Party holds 6 seats, the People Power Party holds 5 seats, and both the chairperson and vice-chairperson are from the Democratic Party.
