The application period for the 2025 College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) regular admission will begin on the 31st of this month. A notable feature of this year's regular admission is the expansion of the number of students admitted without a specific major. While many universities have abolished restrictions on elective subjects for the inquiry section by department and recruitment unit, the number of universities awarding additional points for inquiry area conversion scores has also increased.

According to the Korea Council for University Education on the 26th, the number of students to be admitted through next year's regular admission is 65,635 within the quota and 3,818 outside the quota, totaling 69,453 students. By selection type, the numbers are ▲CSAT-based (63,827 students) ▲practical skills/performance-based (5,224 students) ▲curriculum student record-based (174 students) ▲comprehensive student record-based (183 students) ▲others (45 students).

Additionally, after the CSAT unregistered supplementary registration deadline on the 27th, the number of carryover students will be finalized by the 30th and published on each university's website. Especially due to the increase in medical school admissions, top-tier universities such as Yonsei University and Korea University are seeing a surge in initial early admission registrants withdrawing, which is expected to increase the number of students admitted through regular admission.

The biggest feature of this year's regular admission is the increase in the number of students admitted without a specific major. Among the 17 major universities in the Seoul metropolitan area, all except Yonsei University (Seoul) and Chung-Ang University are admitting students without a specific major through regular admission. Among these, Korea University (Seoul) College of Liberal Studies, Seoul National University College of Liberal Studies, Sookmyung Women's University Division of Liberal Arts, Ewha Womans University Humanities Division, and Ewha Womans University Natural Sciences Division admit students without a specific major only through regular admission.

In particular, the recruitment units for students without a specific major in the 'Group D' category, which previously had a small number of recruits, have expanded. Korea University College of Liberal Studies is conducting Group D recruitment for the first time this year. Dongguk University, Sogang University, Sejong University, and Hanyang University are also selecting students without a specific major in Group D, which is expected to increase options for top-tier university applicants.

This year, 17 universities have abolished restrictions on elective subjects, allowing cross-application between humanities and natural sciences tracks. However, caution is needed as the number of universities awarding additional points for inquiry subjects by track and recruitment unit has increased. Generally, additional points range from 3% to 10% per subject.
