Kim Dong-yeon Revisits Daeseong-dong Village to Review Support Promises for Loudspeaker Damage from South Korea

Daeseong-dong Village is one of the northern villages near the Civilian Control Line (CCL), located 500 meters from the Military Demarcation Line, making it the northernmost border village. Due to this characteristic, it suffers the most damage from North Korea's broadcasts to the South and balloon-borne waste.

Earlier, on October 23, Governor Kim met with residents of Daeseong-dong Village, who were affected by the broadcasts, at Camp Greaves in Paju and promised three measures: ▲installation of soundproofing facilities ▲immediate deployment of two vehicles?a health checkup vehicle and a ‘Mind Relief Bus’ (for trauma screening and treatment) ▲provision of a residents' rest area and temporary lodging.

At that time, Governor Kim comforted the suffering residents and urged, “Do not delay; start construction immediately, even tomorrow, and complete it in the shortest possible time.”

Accordingly, the province promptly completed the window measurements and design for 46 households in Daeseong-dong Village, began on-site construction earlier this month, and finished all work by the 23rd.

In addition, to promote psychological stability and treat hearing loss, four rest areas were established within Camp Greaves starting October 24, and health checkup vehicles and Mind Relief Buses were deployed to provide medical services such as psychological counseling and hearing tests to 283 people.

For temporary lodging support, 24 rooms were leased at the Gyeonggi Future Education Paju Campus starting October 24, and so far, 342 people have used the facility. Residents of Daeseong-dong Village who stayed in the temporary lodging expressed their gratitude, saying they are finding stability thanks to Gyeonggi Province’s support.
