Gyeonggi Province conducted a joint local tax 'planned investigation' with city and county governments this year, uncovering 7,357 cases of tax omissions and collecting an additional 19.9 billion KRW in taxes.
Gyeonggi Province explained that from February to December this year, it collected 19.9 billion KRW, which is 7.9 billion KRW more than the five-year average performance of 12 billion KRW from 2019 to 2023, marking the highest amount among planned investigations in the past five years.
The planned investigation is a comprehensive survey targeting areas with a high likelihood of local tax evasion or omission, aiming to discover hidden tax sources and collect unpaid taxes. Gyeonggi Province selects and implements tasks annually.
This year’s major task achievements include ▲ Planned investigation of taxable standards for newly constructed private buildings: 3 billion KRW (479 cases) ▲ Planned investigation of taxable standards for unfair transaction calculations: 100 million KRW (35 cases) ▲ Planned investigation of temporary two-household disposal deadline arrivals: 14.7 billion KRW (426 cases), among others.
Gyeonggi Province moved away from the previous post-management investigation method, which relied on on-site or aerial photo verification, and conducted investigations by combining various related agency information such as building permit data, national subsidy payment details, and housing ownership status with local tax assessment information according to each task.
No Seung-ho, Director of the Tax Justice Division of Gyeonggi Province, emphasized, "To establish a fair tax law order, Gyeonggi Province and city and county governments will cooperate to strictly enforce tax administration according to laws and principles."
