Mayor Baek Gyeong-hyeon "We will make Guri City free from mosquitoes and pests"
Guri City analyzes mosquito and pest complaints... Proactive integrated control
Guri City wins 'Grand Prize' in Data Analysis and Utilization Contest
Guri City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun) announced on the 22nd that it predicts areas with mosquito pest-related complaints in advance each year through data analysis and promotes proactive integrated pest control measures accordingly.
On the 19th, Kim Eun-joo, Director of the Public Health Center, held a performance meeting to promote interdepartmental collaborative pest control for mosquito and pest eradication in Guri City and encouraged the efforts of pest control officers from each department.
In particular, this year, the city conducted integrated pest control through interdepartmental collaboration centered on the Health Policy Division to realize "Clean Guri! Mosquito ZERO," and proved its effectiveness by winning the grand prize at the "2024 Data Analysis and Utilization Competition."
On March 20th, pest control officers were appointed in 20 related departments to explore mosquito habitats by environment and discuss control methods. Accordingly, thorough management of eco-friendly chemical pest control disinfection and facilities subject to mandatory disinfection was carried out, achieving results such as environmental protection and reduction of disinfectant usage.
Additionally, Guri City operates a pest control task force together with the Public Health Center’s mobile pest control team to promptly handle complaints across wide areas 365 days a year. Collaborating with each department, the task force immediately addresses pest control complaints and strengthens periodic pest control disinfection in vulnerable areas with high mosquito and pest occurrences, such as residential and commercial districts, rivers, and hiking trails, based on three years of data analysis.
As a result, analysis of pest control complaint handling last year and this year showed that the number of pest control treatments per neighborhood decreased by 26.5% after the implementation of interdepartmental collaborative integrated pest control.
Kim Eun-joo, Director of the Public Health Center, said, “I am most proud that we minimized citizen inconvenience by promoting creative ideas for mosquito and pest eradication projects and integrated pest control through interdepartmental collaboration based on data-driven scientific administration.” She added, “We will continue to strive to reduce the population of mosquitoes and pests that act as vectors for infectious diseases and create a pleasant environment through professional and systematic pest control.”
Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun of Guri City stated, “In the future, we will establish a scientific administrative foundation through data analysis to strengthen interdepartmental collaborative integrated pest control. Especially next year, we plan to systematically and efficiently plan pest control projects by newly installing daily mosquito monitoring systems (DMS) and introducing pest control geographic information systems (GIS), and promote proactive smart pest control to create a safe and healthy Guri City free from mosquito and pest concerns.”
