Top Priority for Daejeon Citizens: Economic Revitalization

City Council Survey: Economic Revitalization, Transportation Infrastructure Expansion, and Residential Environment Improvement Ranked as Top Priorities

Top Priority for Daejeon Citizens: Economic Revitalization Citizen Satisfaction Survey Conducted by Daejeon City Council / City Council

Daejeon citizens selected the economy as the top priority issue they want the city to address.


According to the "2024 Daejeon City Council and Municipal Administration Citizen Satisfaction Survey" conducted by the Daejeon City Council from the 5th to the 9th of last month, targeting 1,008 men and women aged 18 and older residing in Daejeon, the most common response (33.7%) for the issue that Daejeon should resolve first was "economic revitalization."


This was followed by "expansion of transportation infrastructure" (16.6%), "improvement of residential environment" (16.6%), "measures for low birthrate and aging population" (10.9%), "building a safe city" (10.4%), "expansion of cultural and sports facilities" (5.6%), "enhancement of administrative services" (3.9%), and "establishment of green ecosystems" (2.3%).


When asked about directions for improvement, "industrial and economic revitalization" (20%) was also cited as the top priority. This was followed by "expansion of transportation infrastructure" (15.7%), "balanced development of new and old urban areas" (13.4%), "environment for citizen communication and participation" (12.4%), "improvement of medical and welfare services" (10.7%), "strengthening public safety and security" (8.5%), "creation of a cultural environment" (7.1%), "enhancement of childcare and educational environment" (6.4%), and "expansion of green spaces and improvement of the natural ecological environment" (5.7%).


In terms of interest in major policies, the results were "Urban Railway Line 2 Tram" (67.9%), "Construction of Yuseong Complex Terminal" (46.4%), "Development of advanced industrial complexes such as nano and semiconductor industries" (43.7%), and "Support for marriage incentives for young newlyweds in Daejeon" (41.2%).


Regarding satisfaction with living in Daejeon, 39.4% responded positively that it is convenient, 47.3% said it is average, and 13.3% gave a negative response, saying it is inconvenient.


There was also continued interest expressed in the Daejeon City Council. When asked about effective ways to improve perceptions of the council, the most common response (35.2%) was "actively promoting council activities." This was followed by "opening channels for civil complaints and petitions" (33.0%), "diversifying council activities" (17.8%), and "education about the council's roles and activities" (11.8%).


For ways to encourage citizen communication and participation, suggestions included "diversifying channels for collecting citizen opinions" (27.5%), "expanding the participatory budgeting system" (18.5%), "permanent online and offline access to the council" (15.7%), "holding citizen communication events" (13.7%), "strengthening feedback functions regarding council activities" (12.9%), and "enhancing communication through media" (11.6%).


This survey was conducted online via mobile, with a margin of error of ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
