LGU+ Signs MOU to Develop Cooling Solutions for AIDC Competitiveness

LG Uplus announced on the 22nd that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Global Standard Technology (hereinafter GST) to develop a liquid cooling solution to strengthen the competitiveness of its AI Data Center (AIDC).

This MOU was established to accelerate the AIDC business by combining LG Uplus's energy efficiency and stability management capabilities of its Internet Data Center (IDC) with GST's cooling technology.

Liquid cooling is a method that uses a cooling device with liquid to cool servers installed in the computer rooms and racks of data centers. The two companies expect that introducing liquid cooling solutions to IDCs can reduce energy consumption by about 50% compared to the existing air-based cooling methods.

The two companies will collaborate on the 'immersion cooling' technology, one of the liquid cooling methods, which cools electronic equipment by immersing it in a non-conductive liquid. Immersion cooling technology offers high energy and space efficiency and generates almost no noise. GST is the only company in Korea that possesses the core technology for immersion cooling.

The two companies will begin verifying the immersion cooling technology at LG Uplus's hyperscale data center, 'Pyeongchon2 Center.' Subsequently, they plan to consider applying the immersion cooling solution to other data centers owned by LG Uplus.

They will also collaborate to develop customized operation and management systems for B2B customers. During the verification period, the two companies will exchange data such as power consumption and cooling system operation data to cooperate closely.

The MOU signing ceremony was held at the LG Uplus headquarters in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, with key executives attending, including Hyungkyun Ahn, Head of LG Uplus Corporate AI Business Group (Senior Vice President), and Deokjun Kim, CEO of GST.

Senior Vice President Ahn stated, "We expect that the addition of next-generation cooling technology to LG Uplus's data center operation capabilities will solidify our position as a leading AIDC business operator."
