Heavy snowfall centered on the mountainous and inland areas of Gangwon Province caused flight cancellations and accidents on snowy roads.
According to the Gangwon Regional Meteorological Administration on the 21st, the heavy snow warnings for Taebaek, Jeongseon plains, and the central and southern mountainous areas of Gangwon were all lifted as of 12:30 PM that day.
Although there was no major damage from this snowfall, flight cancellations and fall accidents occurred.
At around 10:55 AM that day, one flight from Wonju Airport bound for Jeju Island was canceled.
According to the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Fire Headquarters, there were a total of 10 heavy snow-related damage reports, including 5 traffic accidents on snowy roads and 5 fall accidents, most of which were minor.
There were no reported damages to facilities such as vinyl greenhouses.
From 7 PM the previous day to 1 PM that day, the snowfall amounts were 13.2 cm in Daehwa (Pyeongchang), 11 cm in Myeonon (Pyeongchang), 10 cm in Sangseo (Hwacheon), 9.2 cm in Hwacheon, and 8.3 cm in Mahyeon (Cheorwon).
In the mountainous areas, snow accumulated as follows: 13.5 cm in Jinbu (Pyeongchang), 12.9 cm in Guryongryeong, 10.8 cm in Pyeongchang Yongsan, and 9.1 cm in Daegwallyeong.
A meteorological official stated, "Although the heavy snow warnings have been lifted, there will still be places in the inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon where snow falls until late afternoon," and urged caution regarding icy roads and black ice on the roads.
