Gwangjin-gu Installs 'Gwangjin-style Traffic Smart Poles' at 5 Child Protection Zones

Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) will install ‘Gwangjin-type Traffic Smart Poles’ at five school zones within the district by the end of this year to enhance children's pedestrian safety.

The traffic smart pole is a complex facility that combines various smart functions such as streetlights, traffic signs, vehicle detectors, and intelligent CCTVs on a single pole.

Over the past three years, the district has installed and managed smart poles in 12 school zones, including Gwangnam Elementary School.

This year, the smart poles will be installed in school zones near Gyeongbok Elementary School, Dongja Elementary School, Yonggok Elementary School, Jangan Elementary School, and Seongja Elementary School. The smart poles are integrated into existing poles used for crime prevention and illegal parking enforcement CCTVs, maintaining a safe and pleasant pedestrian space without spoiling the road aesthetics.

In particular, the large LED display board will broadcast real-time traffic information such as vehicle speed, illegal parking violations, and pedestrian caution alerts, actively encouraging defensive driving and significantly enhancing pedestrian safety within the school zones.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “Considering local characteristics such as children's traffic volume and the rate of habitual illegal parking, we will additionally install Gwangjin-type traffic smart poles in five school zones. Going forward, Gwangjin-gu will continue to do its best to provide a safe walking environment for both pedestrians and drivers.”
