The ‘Sustainable Transportation City Evaluation’ is conducted annually targeting local governments nationwide with a population of over 100,000 in accordance with the ‘Sustainable Transportation and Logistics Development Act,’ analyzing the sustainability of the transportation sector and selecting outstanding local governments.
The evaluation is based on a total of 25 indicators across four categories: ▲major transition from internal combustion engine vehicles to eco-friendly vehicles ▲strengthening energy-saving public transportation systems ▲support for non-motorized and zero-carbon transportation modes ▲ensuring traffic safety and mobility rights. It comprehensively reviews the current status of sustainable transportation, improvement rates compared to the previous year, and policy efforts related to the transportation and logistics system.
As a result of the comprehensive evaluation, the city was honored with the ‘Grand Prize’ in the ‘Group Na,’ which consists of single cities with a population of over 300,000, and was also selected as the city with the highest improvement feedback in the current year compared to the previous year’s policy evaluation efforts, consecutively receiving the ‘Development Award.’
In particular, the city received high scores by showing excellent results in efforts to promote cycling and walking, such as the car-free street project, bicycle safety insurance for all citizens, and improvement projects in pedestrian-deprived areas.
The city plans to continue discovering advanced transportation policies and strive to establish a sustainable transportation infrastructure for current and future generations through active policy improvements.
Mayor Lee Dong-hwan of Goyang Special City stated, “We will do our best to create a transportation city that satisfies citizens, proactively respond to future changes in the transportation environment, and build a sustainable transportation system.”
