The Korea Institute of Public Administration is a specialized research institute supporting productivity improvement in the public sector and regional development. Since 1996, it has annually surveyed statistical data from 226 local governments nationwide and analyzed competitiveness indices in three areas: management resources, management activities, and management performance.

Goyang Special City showed excellent results with a score of 228.5 out of 300 in the management resources category, which surveyed human resources, urban infrastructure, and industrial base, and was selected as one of the local governments with high local autonomy competitiveness.

In particular, efforts to improve the city's transportation and industrial infrastructure, such as ▲ development of the Daegok Station area knowledge convergence complex ▲ designation as the first venture promotion district in northern Gyeonggi ▲ creation of a mini hydrogen city, received favorable evaluations.

Mayor Lee Dong-hwan of Goyang Special City said, “This good result was achieved thanks to the interest and affection of citizens and public officials who worked together for a better future of Goyang in the 8th term of the elected government,” and added, “We will do our best to transform into a competitive self-sufficient city through attracting companies such as economic free zones.”
