The signing ceremony began with presentations of best practices from 16 newly designated women-friendly cities and 3 cities that received government awards.
Through this agreement, Pocheon plans to strengthen its role as a women-friendly city over five years from 2025 to 2029.
A women-friendly city refers to a city where local governments and the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family collaborate to create a gender-equal community by improving systems, projects, spaces, and decision-making processes. This aims to establish an environment where all community members can enjoy sustainable development regardless of gender.
Pocheon has set the vision of the women-friendly city as a "citizen-centered city that grows and enjoys together," and has been promoting related policies based on five major goals.
According to the agreement, over the next five years, Pocheon will implement women-friendly policies tailored to local characteristics in five areas: ▲establishing a foundation for gender equality ▲expanding women's economic and social participation ▲enhancing community safety ▲creating a family-friendly care environment ▲strengthening women's capacity for community activities.
A Pocheon city official stated, "This agreement is an important starting point to create a gender-equal and safe community that all citizens can feel," adding, "We will continue to realize the value of a women-friendly city together with our citizens."
Mayor Baek Young-hyun of Pocheon said, "Pocheon is already improving the quality of life for its citizens through various women-friendly policies," and added, "We will do our best to realize the value of gender equality through this agreement and create a happy Pocheon for women, men, and all families."
