2,500 Heads of Kimjang Kimchi Delivered Throughout the Community
Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority (hereinafter referred to as the Authority, President Park Sunghyun) announced on the 20th that it had held the "2024 Kimchi Sharing of Love Event with YGPA."
This kimchi sharing event, held at the venue next to the Authority's donation farm (approximately 4,000㎡), was attended by more than 130 people from 10 organizations and groups, including the Authority's executives and employees, Gwangyangman Cooperative, Gwangyang Saemaeul Association, Gwangyang Community Security Council, Gwangyang Climate Environment Network, Gwangyang YWCA, Yeosu Munsu Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, Yeosu Ssangbong Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, and members of the Hwarang, Dongbaek, and Sunshine Rotary Clubs. Together, they made kimchi from about 2,500 heads of cabbage and delivered it to elderly people living alone and vulnerable groups in Yeosu and Gwangyang.

For this kimchi-making event, cabbages, radishes, and mustard greens grown in the "YGPA Happy Sharing Donation Farm," which is operated on idle land owned by the Authority, were used. Since 2019, the Authority has been running the donation farm to create jobs for local seniors and to donate the harvested produce to social welfare facilities and vulnerable groups, thereby realizing a more valuable coexistence with the local community.
In particular, last July, the Authority signed a win-win cooperation agreement with three Food Banks in Yeosu and Gwangyang to evenly distribute the donation farm's harvest and kimchi made from it to local vulnerable groups in need. The kimchi prepared on this day was delivered through the Food Banks and volunteer organizations to approximately 700 vulnerable households in the region who needed support.
This kimchi sharing event by the Authority is meaningful in that it creates jobs for local seniors through the operation of the donation farm, revitalizes the local community, and spreads the Authority's culture of warm coexistence and sharing.
President Park Sunghyun said, "I hope many neighbors enjoy the kimchi delivered by the Authority and have a warm year-end. Going forward, the Authority will continue to expand various win-win activities so that we can grow and move forward together with the local community."
Since its establishment in 2011, the Authority has been carrying out various social contribution activities to coexist with the local community, including the "YGPA Happy Sharing Donation Farm" project, the "Kimchi Sharing of Love Event," support projects for revitalizing traditional markets, the "Together with Kiwoomae" project for supporting multicultural families, the "Bridge of Hope for Children with Special Disabilities" project, the "YGPA Happy Scholarship" program, and the "Obaek Noodle" project for creating jobs for low-income groups.
