Establishing Defense Industry Entry Network, Strengthening Capabilities of Defense Companies

On the 18th, Gumi City in Gyeongbuk held an 'Expert Invitation Defense Industry Seminar' at the Ramada Gumi Hotel to support local entry into the defense industry and to promote information exchange.

This seminar was conducted with the purpose of providing information and forming networks so that small and medium-sized defense companies can effectively utilize support projects from the government and related organizations.


The first lecture was given by Lieutenant Colonel Choi Ijo of the Defense Technology Promotion Institute, who started by explaining the core research and development directions of the defense industry under the theme of the 'Defense Power Support System R&D Project.'


The power support system refers to all elements such as equipment, supplies, facilities, and foundational system software necessary for soldiers, the main actors in combat operations, and weapon systems to continuously demonstrate combat power.


Next, Kim Jaekyung, head of the Gyeongnam branch of the Korea Defense Industry Promotion Association, introduced the 'Defense Industry SME Support Project' of the association. Along with this, Kim Seonggon, director of the Korea Aerospace Industry Promotion Association, gave a lecture on 'SME Participation Plans through Offsets,' and Song Jeonghun, center director of Gyeongbuk Technopark, spoke on the topic of the 'Smart Factory Support Project.'


Finally, Professor Yoo Eunjae from the Defense Business Department at Paichai University delivered a lecture on 'Defense Industry Education,' providing detailed explanations on the overview of the defense industry, defense acquisition procedures, and support projects, advising companies interested in the defense industry on how to establish entry strategies.


Offsets refer to a form of trade where, when purchasing weapons or equipment from overseas, domestic components are exported or related defense technologies are transferred as counterbalancing benefits.


Kim Palgeun, director of the Advanced Industry Bureau, said, "This seminar will serve as an opportunity for local SMEs to effectively participate in the defense industry and strengthen their capabilities," adding, "We will continue to prepare various support measures to revitalize the defense industry."
