A British Playboy model died three days after undergoing buttock augmentation surgery. The cause of death was revealed to be fat embolism resulting from liposuction.
On the 19th (local time), according to foreign media such as The Mirror and Daily Mail, Playboy model Tabby Brown (38) secretly traveled to the Dominican Republic last October, telling her family she was going on a trip to South America, and underwent a "Brazilian Butt Lift" (BBL) surgery, which involves injecting fat into the buttocks. The BBL procedure involves liposuction of fat from the flanks and transplanting it into the buttocks to enlarge them. It is popular in the United States for creating a slim waist and full buttock line.
After the surgery, Tabby stayed at home but felt unwell. She thought it was just a simple cold or viral infection and took painkillers. However, her symptoms worsened, and she eventually died. Her family explained the situation, saying, "Tabby was a healthy person who enjoyed exercising regularly and had built a successful career known to many professionally. She went on a two-week trip and died three days after returning." The family requested an autopsy due to her sudden death, and through the autopsy, they learned that she had undergone buttock surgery before her death.
The cause of death was confirmed to be fat embolism caused by liposuction. Fat embolism occurs when some of the transplanted fat enters the blood vessels and blocks pulmonary vessels. Since the inferior vena cava inside the buttock muscles connects directly to the heart, injecting fat into the buttocks carries a high risk of fat cells traveling through the blood vessels to the heart and pulmonary vessels, leading to death. Although rare, fat embolism is a known complication of BBL surgery. Other reported complications include infection, abscess, necrosis, cellulitis, filler migration, and nodules. Because this surgery carries significant risks, it is necessary to have thorough consultations with a plastic surgery specialist before the procedure to understand potential side effects. It is also important to carefully check whether the clinic has specialized equipment and to review post-operative care methods.
