EBS1 'Hanguk Giheng' Promotes Hidden Charms of Regions
Spotlight on 5 Areas Including Gwangju, Daejeon, Ulsan Series
Exploring Unique Local Culture with Cheongchun Mike Artists
The ‘Local100’ project, which seeks out cultural attractions nationwide, is gaining attention by shedding new light on regional charms. As the name suggests, Local100 is a project that discovers 100 stories across the country to create regions where people want to “go, stay, and live through culture.” This year, the five selected cities will showcase their appeal to viewers through this week’s EBS1 program 'Korea Travelogue.'

This journey of Local100 reconstructs the cultural attractions of each region through the eyes of young artists. Starting from Nam-gu in Gwangju, the story continues through Donghae-si in Gangwon, Nowon-gu in Seoul, Daejeon, and finally Ulsan in Gyeongbuk, revealing the hidden charms of each area. The young artists from Cheongchun Mic will interpret the cities with their unique sensibilities, offering audiences a fresh perspective.
Nam-gu in Gwangju explores the history and vibrancy found in Yangnim Historical and Cultural Village and Namdo Dalbam Night Market. In Donghae-si, Gangwon, visitors can fully experience the nature and traditions of Bukpyeong Folk 5-Day Market and Mureung Byeolyucheonji. Nowon-gu in Seoul highlights urban memories preserved in Hwarangdae Railroad Park and Gongneung-dong Goblin Market, while Daejeon captures the coexistence of past and present through Temi Old Town and Seongsimdang. In Gyeongbuk Ulsan, the journey concludes with the dream of future Ulsan and the whale’s dream at Jangsaengpo Cultural Warehouse and Jigwan Bookstore.
At the final destination, Ulsan, the theme ‘Whale’s Dream’ reflects the city’s past, present, and future. A former seafood processing warehouse has been reborn as ‘Jangsaengpo Cultural Warehouse,’ and the book-centered complex cultural space ‘Jigwan Bookstore’ tells the story of urban regeneration and change. Here, sorikkun Jo Ara will convey the overflowing natural and cultural charms of Ulsan to the audience.
Local100 goes beyond simply introducing regions. It focuses on rediscovering the stories and charms each area holds and transforming them into places where people want to stay and live, drawing concentrated interest.
An official from the Regional Culture Promotion Agency stated, "We hope this project will widely promote the unique charms of each region and serve as an opportunity to revitalize domestic tourism and local culture."
The 'Korea Travelogue' series featuring the five Local100 cities will air on EBS1 until the 20th, and after the broadcast, it will be available on the EBS website and the Regional Culture Promotion Agency’s YouTube channel.
