Nowon-gu Operates Winter Vacation 'Children's English Camp'

Nowon-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will operate the "Nowon Children’s English Camp" during the winter vacation.

The district runs the English camp every summer and winter vacation, achieving intensive learning effects through an environment where the entire schedule is conducted in English.

The camp is held at the Sahmyook University Lifelong Education Center, where participants live exclusively in English for 7 nights and 8 days in classrooms, gymnasium, dormitories, and other facilities on campus, aiming to provide an experience similar to studying abroad.

This camp will accommodate a total of 320 elementary school students residing in Nowon-gu, divided into two sessions of 160 students each, organized into 8 classes. To ensure smooth educational progress, a pre-level test is conducted to place participants in appropriate classes. Each class is led by one native English-speaking teacher and one assistant teacher. The teachers are responsible for closely monitoring students’ levels, adaptation to camp life, and conflict situations, as well as managing safety and health.

Considering that the camp participants are elementary school students from grades 3 to 6, the camp curriculum includes various experiential activities in addition to reading and writing.

▲ Experiencing foreign cultures with native English-speaking teachers ▲ Physical activities that help reinforce what was learned during study time ▲ Practical English simulating real-life situations.

There are also diverse recreational programs such as ▲ community programs to help children quickly make friends ▲ mini Olympics ▲ campfires.

The participation fee for the camp is 920,000 KRW per person, of which the district subsidizes 480,000 KRW, making the student’s own payment 440,000 KRW. However, students from socially disadvantaged families receive full support from the district.

The first camp session runs from the 29th of this month to the 5th of next month, and the second session is from January 12 to 19, 2025. Students who demonstrate excellent attitude and academic achievement during the period will be recognized with an “Outstanding Student Award” at the closing ceremony.

District Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “The Children’s English Camp will provide the best learning experience for children who want to improve their English skills during the vacation,” adding, “As an educational special zone, Nowon will continue to provide effective educational environments and programs to reduce private education costs and complement public education.”
