620 Million Won Empty Jeonse Fraud... Suspect Fleeing to US Repatriated to Korea

620 Million Won Empty Jeonse Fraud... Suspect Fleeing to US Repatriated to Korea

From April 2019 to April last year, they conspired to embezzle rental deposits by purchasing a total of 11 multi-family houses in the Daejeon area through financial institution loans and rental deposits without investing their own capital.

They deceived victims who wished to sign jeonse or monthly rental contracts by falsely informing them that the rental deposits were prioritized and reduced, making it seem as if the full jeonse deposits could be returned. Through this, they stole 6.2 billion KRW from 90 victims and then fled.

After receiving a cooperation request from the Daejeon Police Agency's Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit in August last year, the National Police Agency promptly issued an Interpol Red Notice and began tracking the suspects. In July, upon obtaining intelligence on the suspects' residential areas, the police urgently requested cooperation from the Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), the agency responsible for deportation. A specialized team for tracking illegal residents was assigned to the case and began full-scale investigation and surveillance. As a result, in September, suspects A and B were apprehended near their hideout.

The National Police Agency's International Cooperation Officer stated, "This case is a successful example of cooperation between South Korea and the United States, working as one team to relentlessly track down and arrest criminals infringing on people's livelihoods." He added, "We will continue to pursue the arrest and repatriation of suspects who commit crimes and flee, considering the public's sense of justice."
