Yangju City, ‘Yangju Hyanggyo, Connecting with the Times’? Selected as ‘Excellent Project’ for 3 Consecutive Years

Utilization of Our Local National Heritage

Yangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kang Su-hyun) announced on the 19th that ‘Yangju Hyanggyo, Connecting with the Times’ was honored as an excellent project at the ‘2024 Our Local National Heritage Utilization Excellent Projects’ awards ceremony held at the ‘Daejeon DDC Convention Center.’

The ‘Our Local National Heritage Utilization Project’ is designed to increase the public’s cultural enjoyment opportunities and revitalize the local economy by combining the historical significance and value of cultural, natural, and intangible heritage located nationwide with local human and material resources.


Hosted by the National Heritage Administration and organized by the Korea Cultural Heritage Utilization Association, this awards ceremony selected 20 projects across five utilization fields?Vivid National Heritage, Hyanggyo and Seowon, Cultural Heritage Night Tours, Traditional Mountain Temples, and Old Houses and Ancestral Homes?as the ‘2024 Our Local National Heritage Utilization Excellent Projects.’


In particular, only four projects nationwide, including Yangju Hyanggyo, were selected as excellent projects in the Hyanggyo and Seowon cultural heritage utilization field, drawing attention.


Designated as Gyeonggi-do Cultural Heritage Material No. 2, Yangju Hyanggyo operates the ‘Yangju Hyanggyo, Connecting with the Times’ project under the Our Local National Heritage Utilization Project, and serves as a hub space for community education, culture, and experience by running customized programs for each generation on a regular basis. It is known that it has been selected again this year and next year for the national heritage utilization project competition, receiving 57 million KRW in national funding.


A Yangju City official said, “‘Yangju Hyanggyo, Connecting with the Times’ received favorable evaluations again this time and was selected as an excellent project for three consecutive years in the ‘Our Local National Heritage Utilization Project.’ We will continue to make greater efforts to make the cultural heritage in our Yangju City more accessible and familiar to citizens.”
