Koramco "The Harder It Gets, The More We Must Share"... Continuing Annual Support of 100 Million for Childcare Facilities

Koramco Asset Trust and its subsidiary Koramco Asset Management announced on the 19th that they will regularly donate approximately 1 billion KRW annually for living and medical expenses to low-income families and underprivileged children. The funds are collected through voluntary contributions from employees and matched by the company, then delivered through the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation.

Established in 2001, Koramco has consistently supported local communities in need, donating a cumulative total of over 3.2 billion KRW to date. Considering this year marks its 23rd anniversary, the company has maintained an average annual donation of over 100 million KRW.

Koramco primarily focuses on supporting living and medical expenses for children from low-income families. Since last year, it has expanded its support scope by signing an agreement with the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation for systematic sponsorship. Recently, it has also been assisting with housing environment improvements for children from basic livelihood security households and psychological therapy for children in childcare facilities.

In the past, donation relays were common across society during the year-end and New Year holidays, but the scale of social donations has gradually decreased due to the worsening economic situation.

According to the “2024 Report on Changes in Domestic Donation Scale Based on Data” by the Beautiful Foundation, the total amount of donations in South Korea peaked at 15.6 trillion KRW in 2021. In 2022, it decreased to 15.1 trillion KRW. While individual donations increased by about 400 billion KRW compared to the previous year, corporate donations decreased by about 900 billion KRW.

The real estate finance industry is also going through difficult times, but as the pain of marginalized neighbors intensifies during tough periods, support for these vulnerable groups is more urgent than ever.

Yoon Yong-ro, Chairman of Koramco’s ESG Committee, said, “Donations tend to decrease when the economy declines, but the loneliness felt by underprivileged children grows two to three times stronger.” He added, “We will continue to contribute steadily, even if in small ways, through consistent and everyday support regardless of the economic situation, so that children can grow into true adults without facing discrimination due to their given circumstances.”

Koramco is a comprehensive real estate finance company that has maintained the number one market share in the domestic private REITs market for 23 years. It is recognized as having the highest level of ESG in the domestic real estate investment industry.
