People Power Party Faces Difficulties in Selecting Emergency Committee Chair...Decides to Gather Opinions from Each Member

The People Power Party held a party meeting at the National Assembly on the 18th to discuss the appointment of the Emergency Response Committee Chairperson but failed to reach a conclusion and decided to continue gathering opinions by seniority.

Kwon Seong-dong, Acting Party Leader and Floor Leader, told reporters after the meeting, "Opinions from the members have not yet been collected regarding the establishment of the Emergency Response Committee," adding, "I asked them to listen to opinions by seniority and present them to me."

Within the party, there are simultaneous discussions about having Acting Leader Kwon also serve as the Emergency Response Committee Chairperson or appointing a senior floor member as the chairperson.

Potential candidates for the Emergency Response Committee Chairperson include veteran lawmakers such as Joo Ho-young, Kim Ki-hyun, Kwon Young-se, Na Kyung-won, and Yoon Sang-hyun.

Some suggest that representatives by seniority should participate as committee members to operate the Emergency Response Committee in a so-called 'collective leadership system.'

Lawmaker Kim Do-eup told reporters, "If there is someone among the 5th to 6th term members with extensive experience and a mild 'Pro-Yoon' (Pro-Yoon Seok-yeol) stance, that person should serve as the Emergency Response Committee Chairperson. Electing representative lawmakers by seniority as committee members would dispel factional disputes and ensure democracy."

Lawmaker Cho Kyung-tae, classified as part of the Pro-Han (Pro-Han Dong-hoon) faction, emphasized, "The Emergency Response Committee must cleanse the party's image of supporting martial law and separate itself from the president."
