Yangju City Holds 'Yangju Hoeamsaji World Heritage Promotion Committee Appointment Ceremony'

Gyeonggi Yangju City (Mayor Kang Su-hyun) announced on the 18th that it recently appointed members of the Yangju Hoeamsaji World Heritage Promotion Committee to promote the UNESCO World Heritage inscription of Hoeamsaji and held an appointment ceremony.

Based on the 'Ordinance on the Registration, Preservation, and Management of World Heritage in Yangju City,' the committee was organized with a total of 10 members, including 9 appointed members such as Lee Sang-won, chairman of the Yangju branch of the National Unification Advisory Council, who was elected as chairman, Lee Kyung-mi, director of the Historical Architecture Technology Research Institute, who was elected as vice-chair, various experts from different fields, city council members, and local residents, as well as ex officio members including the Director of Welfare and Culture Bureau of Yangju City.


The term of office is two years starting from December 13, 2024. They will carry out deliberation and consultation not only on the process of promoting the World Heritage inscription but also on the preservation and management of Hoeamsaji, cooperation and exchange among regions with World Heritage sites, seminars and various events, education and publicity, and other diverse matters.


Following the appointment ceremony, the Yangju World Heritage Promotion Team reported on the progress of the World Heritage inscription promotion and the plan for inscription in 2025. The committee members took time to ask questions and share opinions regarding the content.


Mayor Kang Su-hyun stated, “The World Heritage Promotion Committee is meaningful in that it was formed with local residents, stakeholders, and experts in World Heritage and archaeology working together to achieve the UNESCO World Heritage inscription of Yangju Hoeamsaji,” and added, “I ask for the valuable opinions and cooperation of the committee members so that Yangju Hoeamsaji can be inscribed as a World Heritage site in the future.”
