Sewerage Usage Fee to Increase by 6.44% Annually Until 2026
On the 18th, Hanam City in Gyeonggi announced that, according to the amendment of the Sewerage Usage Ordinance, the sewerage usage fee will be increased by 6.44% annually from the January bill next year until 2026.
The sewerage usage fee in Hanam City is 643 KRW per ton, which is only about 49.92% of the processing cost (1,289 KRW per ton), resulting in an accumulated financial deficit every year.
To resolve this issue, Hanam City conducted a 2023 sewerage fee rationalization study and, based on the results, prepared a plan to gradually increase the sewerage usage fee over three years from 2024 to 2026.
Accordingly, a typical household using an average of 20㎥ of water per month will pay 8,880 KRW from the January 2025 bill, which is 540 KRW higher than the previously set 8,340 KRW.
A Hanam City official stated, “The increase in sewerage usage fees was inevitably decided to create a safe and pleasant sewage treatment environment, and we ask for the citizens’ understanding and cooperation.”
