"Universal Perspectives and Common Sense Should Be the Standard"
"Revival Should Be Pursued Through the Path of Expansion-Oriented Parties"
On the 18th, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon stated, "While I oppose martial law, there are far more reasonable and sensible citizens who cannot accept 'President Lee Jae-myung'." The day before, Mayor Oh, targeting Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, criticized him by saying he was "already intoxicated with 'retired king play' as if he were already president," and he has been issuing messages aimed at Lee continuously.
On the same day, Mayor Oh posted on Facebook an article titled "The Path of Self-Destruction, The Path of Revival," suggesting the direction the ruling People Power Party should take, saying, "We must give hope to these people."
In particular, Mayor Oh pointed out, "A party that does not receive the love and support of the people is a dead party." He added, "If there is a large gap between the core supporters and the general public, it is only natural to base decisions on universal perspectives and common sense."
He also judged that the People Power Party stands at a critical crossroads. Mayor Oh elaborated, "The People Power Party must choose whether to seek revival as an expansion-oriented party or to walk the path of isolation as a contraction-oriented party and disappear into history." He continued, "The people are asking whether to transform the crisis into an opportunity or to slowly self-destruct amid the crisis."
The day before, Mayor Oh also criticized the amendment to the National Assembly Testimony and Inspection Act, which was passed in the plenary session of the National Assembly led by the Democratic Party of Korea. The core of the amendment is that if the National Assembly requests document submission or the attendance of witnesses or reference persons, refusal is not allowed. This amendment raised concerns mainly from the business community about the high possibility of corporate secret leaks. Mayor Oh criticized, "Lee Jae-myung-style double play has gone too far."
Regarding Lee Jae-myung's meeting with James Kim, chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea, Mayor Oh said, "While sweet-talking about 'investment opportunities,' he continues the parliamentary outrage that strangles businesses behind the scenes," and pointed out, "The amendment to the National Assembly Testimony and Inspection Act contains anti-business and anti-capitalist provisions requiring businesspeople to attend the National Assembly remotely even during overseas business trips or illness and to submit all trade secrets to the National Assembly."
