Bold Special Exemptions for the 12th National Strategic Technology Flagship Projects

Ministry of Science and ICT Designates R&D Projects as 'Strategic Research Projects' for Focused Management

The government will designate research and development (R&D) projects directly related to the 12 strategic technology mission roadmap as 'strategic research projects' for focused management.

On the 18th, the Ministry of Science and ICT announced that at the 8th meeting of the 'National Strategic Technology Special Committee,' it reviewed and approved the 'Plan for Designation and Promotion of Strategic Research Projects for Mission-Oriented National Strategic Technology R&D.'

Accordingly, strategic research projects will be designated by classifying R&D projects according to their mission characteristics and technology development cycles into ▲ flagship project type ▲ demonstration and commercialization type ▲ foundational technology acquisition type ▲ hub cultivation type.

Designated projects will be granted special measures based on the Strategic Technology Special Act, including R&D investment, follow-up support for excellent outcomes, alleviation of corporate matching burdens, priority examination for patent applications, and reduction of technology fees.

The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to incorporate the existing 10 selected national strategic technology flagship projects and representative projects of specialized research institutes into strategic research projects, and finalize the designation of strategic research projects after reviewing departmental demands and consultations with expert coordination committees under the Strategic Technology Special Committee by technology.
