Opening Ceremony for Paju~Yangju Section on the 18th
The Paju~Yangju Expressway will open from 2 p.m. on the 19th.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 18th at 2 p.m. that an opening ceremony for the Paju~Yangju Expressway will be held at Bukyangju IC in Bongyang-dong, Yangju-si, Gyeonggi Province. About 200 people, including Baek Won-guk, the 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Ham Jin-gyu, President of Korea Expressway Corporation, local government officials, and residents, will attend the event.
This expressway, part of the Metropolitan Area 2nd Ring Road (Route 400), connects Paju-eup in Paju-si and Hoeam-dong in Yangju-si, Gyeonggi Province. The section is a newly constructed route with a project cost of 1.4357 trillion KRW, with a total length of 19.6 km.
With this opening, travel time from Paju-eup to Hoeam-dong is expected to be reduced by about 17 minutes. The driving distance will decrease by approximately 5.4 km (from 25.0 km to 19.6 km).
This road connects to the Seoul~Munsan and Guri~Pocheon Expressways, enhancing accessibility to the northwestern metropolitan area. When the Gimpo~Paju section opens in 2027, it will link to western Gyeonggi areas such as Incheon Metropolitan City and Gimpo-si, further reducing traffic congestion.
With this opening, 74% of the entire Metropolitan Area 2nd Ring Road will be completed. Out of the total 264.3 km, 194.5 km have been constructed. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport plans to proceed with follow-up procedures for the Ansan~Incheon section (19.8 km), which is currently under design.
Vice Minister Baek said, "The opening of the Paju~Yangju Expressway will not only improve accessibility to the northwestern metropolitan area but also accelerate regional industry and tourism development."
