Gyeongnam Jeongbodae Department of Companion Animal Studies Obtains Full 3-Year Certification for Animal Health Technicians

Gyeongnam Information University announced on the 18th that its Department of Companion Animal Studies has received a full 3-year accreditation in the ‘2024 Animal Health Technician Training Institution Certification Evaluation’ conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

An animal health technician is a specialized professional who performs animal nursing or medical assistance tasks under the supervision of a veterinarian at animal hospitals. To obtain the qualification, candidates must enroll in a training institution evaluated and certified by the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and complete required major courses and on-site training at animal hospitals.


With this accreditation, prospective graduates of the Department of Companion Animal Studies at Gyeongnam Information University will be eligible to take the 4th National Animal Health Technician Qualification Examination scheduled for February next year. Additionally, new students enrolling in the 2025 academic year will automatically receive eligibility to take the national qualification exam upon graduation.


Established in 2022, the Department of Companion Animal Studies at Gyeongnam Information University has built a dedicated building for the department, fully equipped with various advanced practical facilities such as the Companion Animal Beauty Care Practice Room, Animal Behavior Correction Practice Room, Diagnostic Practice Room, Comprehensive Practice Room, and Pet Food Practice Room.


Furthermore, it was selected as a test site for the first-ever National Companion Animal Behavior Instructor Qualification Examination held this year, recognizing its infrastructure and educational capabilities. With the acquisition of the full 3-year accreditation, the Department of Companion Animal Studies at Gyeongnam Information University has further solidified its system for training companion animal experts.


Jang Jin-wook, head of the Department of Companion Animal Studies, stated, “We will do our best to nurture specialized technical personnel essential in the era of 15 million companion animals.”
