Up to 100% Transportation Cost Refund, Unlimited Refunds with No Monthly Limit of 60 Trips
Yangsan City in Gyeongnam Province will expand its public transportation fare support for citizens using public transportation starting next year.
This project is linked with the currently implemented K-Pass project and Gyeongnam Pass. Citizens who are already using the existing K-Pass card will automatically receive Gyeongnam Pass benefits from next year by continuing to use their card, and citizens without a K-Pass card can receive benefits by newly registering.
The currently implemented K-Pass project allows refunds ranging from a minimum of 20% to a maximum of 53% based on age and income if public transportation is used more than 15 times per month, but there is a maximum limit of 60 rides. Youth (ages 19?34) receive a 30% refund, general users (35 and older) receive 20%, and low-income groups receive 53%.
In contrast, the Gyeongnam Pass provides unlimited support without a 60-ride limit. Youth (ages 19?39) receive a 30% refund, general users (ages 40?74) receive 20%, and low-income groups and those aged 75 and older receive a 100% refund. The youth age range is expanded from up to 34 years old to up to 39 years old. In particular, those aged 75 and older receive a 100% refund even if they use public transportation only once per month, effectively making public transportation free of charge.
Currently, Mr. A, a 35-year-old resident of Yangsan City, receives a 20% refund on transportation costs for up to 60 rides per month when using the K-Pass card for 80 rides. However, starting next year, he will be able to receive a 30% refund on transportation costs for all 80 rides.
K-Pass cards can be issued by visiting a bank or online through the card company. After receiving the card, users must register as members on the K-Pass app or website to receive refunds on usage fees.
If registration is difficult, assistance is available at the local administrative welfare center. Citizens can visit with their card and a mobile phone registered in their name or inquire through the civil service call center (☎055-120).
Jo Young-jong, Director of the Transportation Department, said, “The expansion of Yangsan City’s public transportation fare support project is expected to play a significant role in reducing citizens’ transportation costs and promoting the use of public transportation,” and added, “We will actively promote this so that many citizens can benefit.”
