Following the Yangcheon Family Street Festival
‘Mokdong Complex 1~3 Zoning Upgrade’ ranked first among the top 10 news stories of the year chosen by residents of Yangcheon-gu, Seoul.
Yangcheon-gu selected the top 10 news stories through an online survey conducted from the 28th of last month to the 12th of this month, targeting 24 candidates that had high levels of public demand resolution, expanded living convenience, and media attention. A total of 5,251 people participated in the survey, with each person able to select up to five items, resulting in a total of 21,087 votes.

As a result of the voting, ‘Mokdong Complex 1~3 Zoning Upgrade resolved after 20 years (Mokdong Greenway)’ received 1,877 votes (8.90%), making it the policy that garnered the most empathy and interest from residents. The ‘Mokdong Greenway’ is evaluated as an innovative compromise solution that addresses the zoning upgrade issue, which had been a long-standing wish of Mokdong Complex 1~3 residents for 20 years, by creating an open public green space to replace public-supported private rental housing.
The second place went to the ‘1st Yangcheon Family Street Festival Grand Success,’ held on a large scale for the first time since the opening of Yangcheon-gu (1,468 votes, 6.96%). This festival, held on a six-lane road around Sinjeongnegeori Station, featured era-specific programs that three generations could enjoy together, attracting about 62,000 visitors and creating a venue for community harmony.
The third place was awarded to the ‘Joint Feasibility Study for the Seoul Subway Line 2 Sinjeong Branch Extension to Gimpo between Yangcheon-gu and Gimpo City’ (1,287 votes, 6.10%), and the fourth place to ‘Installation of Information Terminals at All Village Bus Stops, the First in Seoul’ (1,255 votes, 5.95%). The high rankings of transportation administration infrastructure projects reflect the district’s active efforts to expand and improve public transportation, which resonated strongly with residents, fulfilling their long-standing wish to alleviate transportation inconveniences and providing practical convenience with high satisfaction.
Fifth place was the ‘Warm Food, Laundry, and Hopeful Home Repair Project for Vulnerable Groups’ (1,138 votes, 5.40%), sixth was ‘Promotion of 66 Rapid Reconstruction and Redevelopment Zones’ (1,093 votes, 5.18%), and seventh was ‘Installation of Seoul’s First Accident Prevention Lighting Tower’ (1,011 votes, 4.79%).
Eighth place went to ‘Support for Gimpo Airport Usage Fees for Residents Affected by Airport Noise, the First in the Seoul Metropolitan Area’ (996 votes, 4.72%), ninth to ‘Opening of Yangcheon Education Support Center for One-Stop Integrated Support in Learning, Admission, and Career’ (967 votes, 4.59%), and tenth to ‘Omok Park Public Design Innovation Triple Crown, Rebirth of the Art Park’ (910 votes, 4.32%).
Lee Ki-jae, the district mayor, said, “This top 10 news reflects policies that Yangcheon residents feel and the desired direction of district administration.” He added, “Looking back on the year through the top 10 news, we will continue to listen to the voices of residents and do our best to make Yangcheon-gu a pleasant place to live, where the future is hopeful.”
