Ulsan City Selected for 'Urban Ecological Corridor Restoration Project'... Secures 7 Billion KRW in National Funding

Creation of Dodjilsan Carbon Neutral Forest, Ecological Wetlands, and Ecological Trails

Serving as a Catalyst for the Eco-friendly 2028 Ulsan International Garden Expo

Ulsan City has been finally selected for the Ministry of Environment's public project, the ‘2025 Urban Ecological Axis Restoration Project,’ securing 7 billion KRW in national funding.

The Urban Ecological Axis Restoration Project has been implemented since 2020 to restore disrupted or damaged ecological axes, aiming to recover ecosystem continuity and enhance its functions.

Ulsan City applied for the project under the theme ‘Ulsan Urban Ecological Axis Restoration Project.’

The city’s plan to restore the neglected landfill and the fragmented ecosystem of Dodjilsan, and to hold an international event on climate change response there, received high evaluation from the central government.

This project will be carried out over three years from next year until 2027.

On a 250,416㎡ site around Samsan Yeocheon Landfill and Dodjilsan, the project aims to connect the disrupted ecological axes within the city, creating a carbon-neutral forest, ecological wetlands, and ecological trails to establish a network of aquatic ecological axes (Green) and green axes (Blue).

An official from Ulsan City said, “With the promotion of this public project, biodiversity within the city will be enhanced, providing citizens with the best ecosystem services,” adding, “It is especially significant in laying the foundation for hosting the environmentally friendly 2028 Ulsan International Garden Expo.”

Seven local governments, including Ulsan, Incheon, Gwangju, Hoengseong County in Gangwon, Chungju in Chungbuk, and Gyeongju in Gyeongbuk, were selected for the ‘2025 Urban Ecological Axis Restoration Project.’
