Jangsu-gun Conducts Survey on Demand for Self-Produced Honeybee Queens for Next Year

For Tomato and Other Horticultural Crop Growers

Jangsu County in North Jeolla Province announced on the 17th that it will conduct a survey on the demand for self-produced pollination bees among horticultural crop farmers (such as tomatoes and blueberries) until the end of this month for the year 2025.

Jangsu-gun Conducts Survey on Demand for Self-Produced Honeybee Queens for Next Year Jangsu County will conduct a demand survey for self-produced pollinating bees in 2025 targeting horticultural crop farming households until the end of this month. Provided by Jangsu County

Since 2019, the county has supplied 3,500 colonies of pollination bees annually, and in response to the increasing demand from farmers each year, it plans to expand the supply to 4,000 colonies next year.

The supply price per colony of pollination bees is 30,000 KRW, which provides a 58% reduction in production costs compared to the market price.

The self-bred pollination bees are larger, more active, and have excellent pollination abilities, significantly contributing to increased agricultural productivity. In particular, using pollination bees increases fruit productivity and improves sugar content and acidity, thereby enhancing taste and quality.

The county is actively supporting stable agricultural production through education on the use of pollination bees and on-site consulting.

Park Cheolsoo, Head of the Technology Supply Division, said, "Based on this demand survey, we will establish a stable pollinator supply system in the region," and added, "We expect this to contribute to producing high-quality agricultural products and increasing farmers' income in response to climate change."
