Han Dong-hoon "Prevented Illegal Martial Law... This Is Conservative Spirit"
Speaker Woo Won-sik's Light Green Tie Also Draws Attention
Han Dong-hoon, leader of the People Power Party, resigned after 146 days in office, drawing attention to the 'Yongbieocheonga' necktie he wore at the time of his resignation announcement. On the 16th, Han held a press conference at the National Assembly and stated, "With the resignation of the Supreme Council members, the Supreme Council has collapsed, making it impossible to perform normal duties as party leader," adding, "I am stepping down from the position of party leader."

On the 16th, Han held a press conference at the National Assembly and stated, "With the resignation of the Supreme Council members, the Supreme Council has collapsed, making it impossible to perform normal duties as party leader," adding, "I am stepping down from the position of party leader."
At the press conference, Han's necktie attracted the most attention. This necktie, also worn at the Ministry of Justice inauguration ceremony in May 2022, features Yongbieocheonga, the first work written in Hunminjeongeum. Yongbieocheonga praises the founding of the Joseon Dynasty and is used in political circles as a metaphor for those who express unconditional support for the regime.
Last October, Han showed efforts to expand his influence by hosting a dinner with pro-Han (Chin Han Dong-hoon) faction lawmakers and meeting with out-of-office party branch chiefs. At this gathering, some attendees reportedly conveyed to Han that they would not sing the 'Yongbieocheonga,' indicating their willingness to offer candid criticism rather than unconditional support.
In his resignation statement that day, Han emphasized, "The People Power Party, led by the party leader and lawmakers, was the first to stand with the people to prevent the illegal martial law declared by the president from our party," adding, "This is the true spirit of conservatism and the spirit of the People Power Party that I love." With this resignation, the People Power Party faces a leadership vacuum. Political circles expect discussions on the party's future direction and the selection of the next leadership to intensify.
Earlier, attention was also drawn to the light green tie worn by Speaker of the National Assembly Woo Won-shik during the impeachment vote on the 14th. This tie is known to be a memento of the late Kim Geun-tae, former standing chairman of the Democratic United Party (the predecessor of the Democratic Party), who was called the "godfather of the democratization movement."

This necktie is known to be a personal item of the late Kim Geun-tae, former standing chairman of the Democratic United Party (predecessor of the Democratic Party of Korea), who was called the 'godfather of the democratization movement.' On the 4th, Speaker Woo posted on social media after the martial law was lifted, "I wore the light green necktie, a personal item of my late brother Kim Geun-tae, for the first time in a while. This necktie is something I always wore when I had to make big decisions," adding, "Whenever I put on the necktie, I silently asked and promised, 'Brother Kim Geun-tae, please help me and give me courage.'"
