The Han River Watershed Fund resident support project is a program aimed at promoting the welfare and income increase of residents in the upper Han River region, funded by the water usage charge (170 KRW per 1 ton) imposed on the lower Han River area, in accordance with the "Act on Improvement of Water Quality and Resident Support in the Han River Watershed."
Through this resolution, the Yeoju City Council expressed deep regret over the reduction of the resident support project budget in 2025 and strongly criticized the government for failing to fulfill its promises made during the "Yongin Semiconductor Cluster Water Supply Win-Win Cooperation Agreement" process.
Furthermore, the council strongly urged the abolition of overlapping regulations that hinder regional development, such as the designation of natural conservation zones, military facility protection zones, water source protection zones, and waterfront zones. It clearly stated that failure to resolve these unreasonable regulations will severely limit the rights and development potential of local residents.
Chairman Park Doo-hyung strongly condemned the decision to reduce the resident support project budget, which completely disregards the long-suffering situation of Yeoju citizens, and said, “We will actively carry out activities urging the government for practical support and the abolition of overlapping regulations in cooperation with the Yeoju City Pan-Citizen Countermeasure Committee and six neighboring cities and counties.”
