At this event, representatives from four of the five companies contributing to the 2024 welfare fund?Busan Jeonggwan Energy, Busan City Gas, Sebang, and USP?attended and delivered the welfare fund to Green Umbrella.

The power generation companies within the Busan New Port Hinterland have signed a ‘Welfare Fund Contribution Agreement for the Activation of Busan New Port Hinterland and Realization of Social Value’ with Busan Port Authority, calculating the contribution amount annually based on the power generation (installation) capacity.

The ‘Hinterland Solar Power Generation Project,’ which donates a portion of the power companies’ profits to a welfare fund for realizing social value, has been implemented since 2022.

This year, five power companies (Busan Jeonggwan Energy, Busan City Gas, USP, Sebang, and Kepco Solar) contributed a total of 36.5 million KRW to the welfare fund.

Green Umbrella plans to use this welfare fund to support energy-vulnerable children in the areas near Busan New Port Hinterland (Gangseo-gu, Busan and Jinhae-gu, Changwon-si, Gyeongnam) by providing assistance for heating and cooling costs and heating supplies.

Among the beneficiaries, Soyang Mujigae Dongsan, the only child care facility on Gadeokdo Island, is undergoing a project from 2023 to 2027 to replace its old oil boilers with electric boilers to alleviate the burden of heating costs caused by the aging facilities and oil boiler usage.

BPA Operations Headquarters Director Hong Sung-joon stated, “We will continue to actively develop and promote energy-welfare projects that spread eco-friendly energy within the port and return a portion of the profits generated to the local community.”
