A man in his 50s who fell off his bicycle while intoxicated and assaulted a middle school student who picked up his belongings was sentenced to prison.

According to Yonhap News on the 16th, the Cheongju District Court Criminal Division 6 (Presiding Judge Jo Hyun-seon) sentenced Mr. A, a man in his 50s who was tried on charges of injury and child abuse, to one year in prison.

Mr. A is accused of headbutting middle school student B (15) three times on the head and nose with his forehead around 11:11 p.m. on September 14 on a street in Sangdang-gu, Cheongju, Chungbuk, causing injuries including a fractured nasal bone and wounds requiring 30 days of medical treatment. At the time, Mr. A was intoxicated and riding a bicycle when he fell, and when B, who was nearby, picked up Mr. A’s belongings that had fallen to the ground, Mr. A assaulted B without any reason, saying "Don’t touch it."

The court stated, "The defendant assaulted a child who was trying to help him, and the extent of the injury is serious," adding, "The defendant was not forgiven by the victim’s side, and multiple prior records of violence were considered in sentencing."

Meanwhile, last month, a man in his 20s who caused a disturbance to paramedics trying to take him to the hospital after he was found collapsed in a park during the daytime was fined.
