Livestock Facilities Receive the Most with 16.6 Billion Won
Disaster Relief Funds Provided to Animal Barns and Small Business Owners
On the 16th, Icheon City in Gyeonggi Province announced that the total damage caused by the heavy snowfall at the end of last month was estimated at 40 billion KRW.
The city explained that the damage in Icheon by sector due to the heavy snowfall was ▲16.6 billion KRW for livestock facilities ▲7.7 billion KRW for ginseng cultivation facilities ▲5.8 billion KRW for vinyl greenhouses, among others. This amount is 2.8 times the 14.5 billion KRW threshold for declaring a special disaster area.
The city plans to provide disaster relief funds to citizens whose livelihoods were affected by the heavy snowfall. Disaster relief funds are amounts provided by the national or local governments to individuals or businesses affected by natural disasters for disaster recovery and aid to victims. Typically, the support is about 35% of the damage amount, up to a maximum of 50 million KRW. The city intends to prioritize advance payments of disaster relief funds to small business owners struggling to operate and farmers in need of livelihood support due to the heavy snowfall.
The city added that it will safely restore public facilities damaged by the disaster, such as the outdoor grand performance hall at Seolbong Park and the rain shelter facility at the soccer field in Sindun-myeon Sports Park, to ensure no inconvenience to citizens using these facilities.
Regarding ginseng cultivation facilities, which are difficult to restore independently due to the large-scale damage, the city explained that public officials are directly providing manpower support with the cooperation of volunteers and military personnel.
