The appeal trial for the perjury coaching charge against Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, has been assigned to the Criminal Division 3 of the Seoul High Court.
According to the legal community on the 16th, Lee's case was assigned to the Criminal Division 3 of the Seoul High Court (Presiding Judges Lee Chang-hyung, Nam Ki-jung, Yoo Je-min).
The Criminal Division 3 of the Seoul High Court is a specialized court for corruption cases. This division previously sentenced former lawmaker Yoon Kwan-seok, who was tried for involvement in the Democratic Party's 'party convention cash envelope scandal,' to two years in prison, the same as in the first trial, last July.
Earlier, the Criminal Division 33 of the Seoul Central District Court (Presiding Judge Kim Dong-hyun) acquitted Lee on the 25th of last month on the perjury coaching charge. Although it was true that Kim Jin-sung committed perjury at Lee's request to testify, the court ruled that Lee could not be considered to have had intent because he was unaware that Kim would commit perjury.
