The county received high scores overall in wildfire prevention and promotion, wildfire preparedness and response, and wildfire prevention cooperation, earning the honor of being selected as the best institution.
During the wildfire caution period, the Wildfire Prevention Countermeasures Headquarters was also operated, and 216 wildfire prevention specialists and wildfire watchers were deployed on site. Through this, they did their best to establish an initial response posture, and organized 150 general public official firefighting squads to build a wildfire response system. They also conducted specialized training for wildfire prevention specialists and wildfire watchers and participated in integrated wildfire firefighting drills to fully prepare for activating the wildfire prevention cooperation system and cultivating wildfire firefighting capabilities in response to the increasing scale and year-round occurrence of wildfire disasters.
In addition, they installed wildfire caution flags and posted banners at major intersections, hiking trails, and tourist sites to carry out wildfire prevention publicity campaigns. The county actively promoted the collection and shredding of agricultural by-products in forest-adjacent areas to prevent wildfires caused by burning agricultural residues. Furthermore, they focused on cracking down on illegal burning within 100 meters of forest-adjacent areas and planned to strongly respond under a zero-tolerance policy by imposing fines.
As a result of the county's full efforts in wildfire response, although 255 cases and 99 hectares of forest were lost nationwide this year, only one case occurred in Imsil, minimizing wildfire damage.
County Governor Shim Min said, “Despite the difficult conditions of increasing and enlarging wildfires due to global warming, meaningful results were achieved through organic cooperation between residents and public officials,” and added, “We will continue to actively conduct wildfire prevention and guidance activities to protect the lives and property of residents and safeguard the forests.”
