Sale of Building in Sinsa-dong
"Estimated to Have Sold Below Asking Price"
Broadcaster Kang Ho-dong has reportedly made a capital gain of 2.5 billion KRW by selling a building he owned in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
According to a report by Hankyung.com on the 16th, Kang Ho-dong sold the building located in Sinsa-dong, which he owned, for 16.6 billion KRW last November. The building consists of one basement floor and five above-ground floors, with a land area of 253.95㎡ (58.11 pyeong) and a building area of 593.17㎡ (179.43 pyeong). It is located on Garosu-gil’s main street, where famous brand stores are densely clustered, including an Apple Store located in the next alley. Famous brands have consistently occupied his building, and it is known that a fashion brand is currently operating there.
Kang Ho-dong purchased this building in June 2018 for 14.1 billion KRW and sold it after six years, earning a profit of 2.5 billion KRW. Regarding this, Jo Nam-in, director at Building On, explained, "At the time of purchase, a loan of 7 billion KRW was taken from the bank, and although it was held for six years, considering capital gains tax payments, it is estimated that the actual profit was not significant." He added, "Recently, there have been many vacancies on the main street of Garosu-gil, and transactions are infrequent, so it is difficult to apply the recently sold price per pyeong as a comparable case. It appears that the building was sold at a price much lower than the asking price." SM C&C, Kang’s agency, reportedly stated, "It is private, so it is difficult to confirm."
Meanwhile, Kang Ho-dong joined the Choheung Geumgo Ssireum team in 1988 and became the youngest Cheonhajangsa (national wrestling champion) in 1990. He was active as a ssireum wrestler until 1992, and upon comedian Lee Kyung-kyu’s recommendation, he was selected as a special recruit comedian at MBC in 1993, starting his full-fledged broadcasting career. Since then, he has appeared on various entertainment programs such as "Kang Ho-dong’s Match Made in Heaven," "Yashim Manman: Asked to Ten Thousand People," "Real Situation Saturday - X-Man," "Knee-Drop Guru," "Star King," "1 Night 2 Days," "Strong Heart," "Our Neighborhood Arts and Physical Education," "New Journey to the West," "One Meal Please," "Kang’s Kitchen," "Great Escape," and "Knowing Bros," establishing himself as one of Korea’s leading MCs. In 2006, he married non-celebrity Lee Hyo-jin, and they have one son who is currently in middle school. It is reported that his son is active as a golf player.
