Lee Jae-myung: "Korean Turmoil Is a Bargain Buying Opportunity... Development of Korea-US Economic and Comprehensive Alliance"

Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, met with members of the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM) on the 16th and stated, "I hope you think of this brief turmoil as an opportunity to invest in the Republic of Korea, a chance to buy at a low price."

At the meeting with AMCHAM held at the National Assembly that afternoon, Lee said, "Going forward, the Korea-US relationship will develop beyond a blood alliance into an economic and comprehensive alliance, and within that, economic cooperation will expand and strengthen."

Lee emphasized, "The role of the United States in the Korean War, the subsequent US aid, and the great help from the free world, including the US, as a member of the free camp, have contributed to the growth of the Korean economy and the Korea we have today."

He added, "Although the current situation in Korea is unstable and has some impact on the economy, I hope you consider it as a minor stress test," and said, "These disturbances will be resolved through legal procedures in a short time, and it will be an opportunity for the whole world to recognize how strong Korea’s democratic system is."

James Kim, chairman of AMCHAM, explained, "Although there is some uncertainty due to the current political situation, AMCHAM is actively working to separate business from politics and emphasize Korea’s potential."

He said, "Singapore has regional headquarters of 5,000 multinational companies, but unfortunately, Korea has fewer than 100," and added, "We are actively working to emphasize Korea’s potential."
